Danny Hebert takes victory and point lead with Baton Rouge conquest!

Baton Rouge, Louisiana (May 11, 2007) – Danny Hebert retook the O’Reilly SUPR Modified Championship point lead in convincing fashion, winning for the first time this season after starting on the outside.  Hebert’s victory at Baton Rouge Raceway began with Billy Collett on the pole for the feature with Hebert to his outside.  Collett grabbed the lead at the start but his night ended abruptly on lap three as he broke a motor.  Hebert took full advantage of the break and went on to lead the remaining 23 laps to stake his first victory with the O’Reilly SUPR Modified Series.  It also kept alive a rare streak, as Hebert was the seventh winner in seven races.

Chris Cassano, Danny Hebert and Tommy Cannon won the heat races to set the 20 car field.  After Collett dropped out, Chris Cassano stepped up to second and began to pressure Hebert for the lead but his challenge would only last until the halfway mark when slipped out of line and fell back to fifth where he would remain to the checkers.  Jerry Cassano was running right behind his son Chris until debris on the track sent Jerry into the turn one wall hard.  First-time O’Reilly SUPR Modified competitor Chris Smith of Brewton, Alabama moved up to second at this point and pressured Hebert for the lead while holding off another Hebert, Shane for the strong finish.  Shane Hebert finished third, with Richie Ginn fourth and Chris Cassano fifth.
